Online Rescue Broadcast

Online media tonight show their real power. Rescue of Chilean miners is online in every corner of the world, doesn’t matter which time zone is. We keep cross fingers for everyone there. Thanks to online broadcast we can see tears, emotions, happiness on people’s faces there.

But, I’m wondering, what headlines will be published in newspapers. Where is here the place of newspapers? How they will cover that story? What are they going to write tomorrow, which numbers they will publish: “Four miners were rescued”, “Six miners were rescued”… Deadline for preparing new printed issues is in last minutes… Hard task for editors who now need to publish stories who won’t be “story from yesterday”.

Maybe, this experience tonight shows us the last minutes of old fashion printed media journalism. Managers, editors, journalists, even from the biggest newspapers lost the battle tonight, at least in U.S. They can’t anymore be equal sparing partner with gigantic online media network. Information is already issued online and there is nothing new left fro printing tomorrow.

This event tonight increase my debts over future of printed media.

Dancing welcome to Herberger Theater Center

Those are first impressions about the sculptures placed in front of the Herberger Theater Center in downtown of Phoenix. Few days ago workers finished reconstruction of Herberger center, they have moved fences and finally sculptures are visible again.

Definitely that is one of places in downtown in Phoenix, which can be marked as “must see” and “must feel”.

Sculptor John Waddel managed to give the sculptures strong still movements and strong silent sounds. He named them “Dance”.

As it is explained on his web site:

Dance, a major work created in the early 1970’s is a representation of John’s unique ability to give bronze motion. He offers us a glimpse into the inner beauty in each of the grouped figures, and brings to life a feeling of gentle grace and energy.  Each dancer has a “portrait- like” quality that is unique to the model while adding to the overall dimension of the piece as a whole.

But, unfortunately, even they scream for attention, people still forget to stay there and to give them at least short look. Therefore, it was necessary to call the cartoon characters to join me and to stay in front of my photo lense when no one from reality wants to experience those bronze-frozen emotions.

Dear Sir, can you hear her melody?

If your path leads you there, don’t try to avoid them and don’t watch just across the street. Go between them and look their faces very closely. After just few moments you can feel how your mind goes far from the every day life and you’ll enter the small world of emotions which artist have left on faces and bodies of those sculptures.

Give yourself a chance to be between them an for a moment don’t watch them just like a bronze material. Try to make them alive in your thoughts. That won’t be difficult task, because author managed to give them passion which spreads in the area.

Everywhere with newspaper

Facebook for beginners … Democracy for beginners… Plato for beginners… Shakespeare for beginners… Barack Obama for beginners… So many beginners books, pages and words written for those who, named as beginners, have decided to make first steps in some new field. Few days ago, in the air appeared and USA for Beginners. That is the name of my new blog. It won’t teach you how to talk better English, it won’t give you answers how to find a job here, it even won’t tell you how to enter the country hidden in a big suitcase. No!

In this blog, dear readers I’ll talk about culture in USA. You would be able to find information about concerts, movies, plays, books, exhibitions.

In the beginning culture issues will be connected with Phoenix. That is the city in which currently I live. Also, blog posts from time to time will jump from theatres, halls, libraries in streets with questions about the culture of everyday life in Phoenix, Arizona, the States.

Topic of culture blogs didn’t fall from the sky just like with no reason. I come from Macedonia, where in the past six and a half years I have been writing about culture events in my country and in Europe. Those articles are published in Dnevnik, daily newspaper from Skopje, Macedonia.

Now I am at Walter Cronkite School of journalism, which is part of Arizona State University. Reason why am I here is the PDY program, Professional development year, which U.S. State Department provides for mid-career journalists from all around the world.

In the name of the truth I didn’t expect that after coming here I’ll need to start writing blogs, shooting photos, videos, and to have headaches of Photoshop, Final cut, HTML, In Design, social media… But this blog wouldn’t live just like one more assignment. I hope it’s birth and life in the internet space will bring new picture and new perception of American culture, viewed by the eyes of one Macedonian journalist.
